BlackBerry OS To Go Open For Other Manufacturers

Research In Motion is thinking to make its BlackBerry operating system open which will allow other smartphone manufacturers to make smartphones using the platform. But company is not sure on taking this step.

“We get a lot of offers to make BlackBerry operating system open for other manufacturers to manufacture phones based on this OS. But we are yet to take a call on that,” said Carlo Chiarello, senior vice president, smartphone business at RIM.

This step can pe the effect of Android’s popularity which is open and most popular. Samsung and many other smartphone manufacturers are using Android. This is the reason we can see market full of ANdroid smartphones. Windows Phone Oerating system is partly open and Nokia, HTC are using this.

While BlackBerry is thinking to make OS open but it will be intereting to see whether it will allow manufacturers to modify it or not.
