Lenovo K8 Note First Impressions: Stock Android, Dual Camera and Multimedia Experience

Lenovo K8 Note

Lenovo has upgraded its Note series, skipped K7 Note and launched Lenovo K8 Note. When they confirmed its K8 Note and they are skipping K7 Note, my expectations from this phone jumped high. When I got a chance to experience the phone, I found this a worthy upgrade. Since the phone comes with Stock Android, we can expect fewer software issues and regular upgrade.

Starting At Rs. 12,999, Lenovo K8 Note comes to directly fight with Redmi Note 4, Honor 6X and Lenovo’s own Moto G5 Plus. If you just look at specs, Lenovo K8 Note beats them all. The 3GB/32GB variant comes for Rs. 12999 and the 4GB/64GB variant is priced at Rs. 13999. It will be available exclusively on Amazon.in. I got a chance to check this phone and here are my first impressions.

Lenovo K8 Note looks very similar to Honor 6X. You get the same kind of metal unibody design. The front got the vertical dual camera setup and fingerprint scanner at top center. The phone has 5.5-inch touch display. Front camera and front camera flash are above the display and three capacitive non-backlit keys are located below the display.

The phone has SIM slot, microSD card slot and music key on the left side. This music key is customizable and you can assign any task if you do not prefer music control. The top side has 3.5mm audio jack. The base side has micro USB and speaker holes.

The phone will be available Fine Gold and Venom Black colors. The slight curve at edges improves the grip. The phone is splash resistant with P2i Nano coating. So it can survive the accidental exposure in water.

The phone has 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass display with Gorilla Glass protection. The display has good viewing angles but its reflective nature can be a problem. It offers rich colors and excellent brightness. As the phone has Lenovo’s TheaterMax technology, you will enjoy multimedia content. I experienced TheaterMax in Lenovo K4 Note and Lenovo K5 Note both. So, this could be the same experience.

The phone features deca-core MediaTek Helio X23 processor paired with Mali T880 GPU. The deca-core processor looks much powerful on paper and I also expect good performance. But I do not want to claim anything without proper testing the device. It will be available in 3GB or 4GB RAM models. The phone is capable enough of handling day to day tasks like social media and web browsing. But I do not want comment on gaming without personally testing.

The phone comes in 32GB and 64GB storage models. But the best thing is that the phone offers a dedicated slot to expand the storage.

The company has ditched the Vibe UI in favor of stock Android. The phone still comes with few pre-installed apps including Microsoft office suite. The icons were also looked custom. You get Android 7.1.1 Nougat with the July security patch out-of-the-box. This phone will also get regular Android updates. I hope the updates will be on time. With stock Android, this phone will surely be better than previous Lenovo K Note series phones.

For awesome multimedia experience, it packs TheaterMax VR and Dolby Atmos technologies. So, watching videos will be a real fun on this phone.

The phone also has fingerprint scanner located on the rear panel. I tested that and it was quick to unlock this phone.

It has dual camera setup with a 13 megapixels primary sensor and 5 megapixels secondary sensor. The secondary sensor is just to capture depth information for creating a bokeh effect. The camera looked fine in initial testing. On the front, it has 13 megapixels camera with f/2.2 aperture and it was also fine. The Pro mode is available for both front and rear camera. Both cameras also have LED flash to support in low-light.

The phone has Dual SIM, 4G with VoLTE, WI-Fi, Bluetooth, micro USB, USB OTG and GPS connectivity options. It packs a large 4000 mAh battery with support to Turbo Charge. The TurboCharge will also be available within the box.

What makes this phone notable?

Here are few notable things to beat the competition.

  • Water repellent nano coating
  • TheaterMax Technology
  • Dual Camera at affordable price
  • Deca-core processor

Final Words

At this price, this phone seems powerful. I have yet to test this phone properly to see the actual performance, camera, and battery. This phone will be competing with best selling mid-range phone Redmi Note 4. Cool 1 and Honor 6X are two other dual camera phones with better dual camera experience. The first impression of this phone is good and I hope it will perform the same as it boasts.

I will try to get this phone for review to experience it and share my review with you. What do you guys think about Lenovo K8 Note? Share your views with us in the comments.
