Coolpad Cool Play 6 First Impressions

Coolpad Cool Play 6

Coolpad has launched its new smartphone Coolpad Cool Play 6 in the Indian market. This is the cheapest phone with 6GB RAM in India. If you go back in time, you will find that Coolpad had launched the cheapest phone with a fingerprint sensor, cheapest with 3GB RAM, cheapest with 4GB RAM and cheapest with dual camera. Now again a new challenge to competitors. The company launched this phone in Dubai and handed over the device to me for using and testing. I have been using this phone for past 2 days and here are the first impressions.

Coolpad Cool Play 6 carries the same design that we saw in Cool 1 dual in past. There is no change in design. The phone carries unibody aluminum construction with solid build quality. It has 5.5inch Display with large bezels. Above the display, it has sensors, secondary shooter, and an earpiece. It has three capacitive backlit navigation buttons below the display.

At the right, it has the volume rocker and it has sim slot try at left. At the top side, it has 3.5 mm audio port and the base side has USB Type C along with the speaker.

The backpanel has dual camera setup, dual LED flash, and fingerprint scanner. The phone has smooth finish at back with curvey edges. The phone is a bit heavy with 175 grams of weight but it does not look bulky.

The phone carries 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD panel. The display offers good color reproduction but bright could be better. In indoor, it does not create any issue but its reflective nature can trouble you in outdoors. While legibility was not that much of bad, it could be better.

The phone runs on Journey UI based on Android 7.1.1. With this new UI, the company tried to improve the experience, but it is still in early phases. I found few software issues and hope these will be fixed soon. The UI offers dual space feature and few more interesting options. You also get few bloatware and thankfully though these apps can be uninstalled easily.

It has 1.95GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor with Adreno 510 GPU. It has 6 GB RAM to offer better multitasking. The phone’s performance is up to the mark and it can handle everything easily. While I have yet to check the gaming properly, I am happy with its performance. It is my daily driver for past 2 days with no issues at all.

The phone has 64GB of storage but you cannot expand the storage. I do not see it an issue because 64GB is more than enough. If you still need more, you can try using OTG storage.

The phone has a dual camera at the back with 13 megapixels camera sensors to capture good photos. This camera delivers awesome bokeh effect. At the front, it has 8 megapixels camera. The shutter speed and focus is good. The camera app is fine. I found this camera quite good at this price. The detailed review of the camera will come soon.

The phone packs 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB type C and GPS connectivity options. It has 4000 mAh battery that is good enough to power your phone for a full day. Battery backup is good with normal usage. I will come with detail review to talk about everything in detail.

For just Rs. 14999, this phone offers 6GB RAM Snapdragon 653, dual Camera and 4000 mAh battery. I only see display bit down, but all other things are pretty good. This phone will directly compete with Lenovo K8 Note and upcoming Mi 5X. The 6 GB RAM at this price puts phone ahead of its competitors.
