Reliance Announces JioPhone for Free But With Refundable Rs. 1500 Security Deposit

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani today announced new JioPhone. This phone costs Rs. 0 but the company will be collecting 100 percent refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500.

The RIL chief said that the security deposit is to avoid the misuse of this offer. The amount will be refunded after 3 years. The JioPhone will be launched on August 15 and the pre-bookings will begin on August 24.

JioPhone is a basic feature phone with 4G compatibility and support to 22 major languages. The phone has 2.4 QVGA display and an alphanumeric keypad. It also has 2 megapixels rear camera, VGA front, camera, 4GB of internal storage,  512MB of RAM and expandable storage

The phone comes with preloaded with JioMusic, JioCinema, and JioTV. So, users will be able to watch TV content, Live TV, movies and educational programs.

It also allows you to mirror the phone on their TV screen. For this, the JioPhone TV cable will be required. It will connect the phone to not only a smart TV but also to any old CRT TV.

The phone comes with free voice call, SMS, and data for one month at a cost of Rs 153. There will also be weekly plans of Rs 53 and a two-day plan costing Rs 23.

Later this year, the company will also launch the upgraded version of this phone with NFC connectivity. Mukesh Ambani also confirms that Reliance has targeted 5 million Jio Phone units a week.
