For past few months, the Indian government has been pushing Aadhaar usage and is indirectly forcing every single citizen to get one. Aadhaar is a single document that can be presented as ID proof or address proof. It is validated by Government of India and contains personal details along with fingerprint scans. This is the reason you must have the Aadhar card.
To create and maintain Aadhaar, the government has created a separate body Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). They have authorized several centers where you can go and enroll for a new Aadhaar card or request to update your data. But there is also an official website that allows you to download your e-Aadhaar card, check the status of the existing request and update data of your Aadhaar.
