POCO recently launched POXO X7 5G and POXO X7 Pro 5G in India. I already wrote a detailed review of POCO X7 Pro 5G. Now it’s the time to talk about POCO X7 5G. POCO X7 5G boasts a durable build, a good display, a larger battery, and a refreshed design. In this detailed POCO X7 5G review, I will try to include all the details you need to know about POCO X7 5G before buying it.
Design
One of the biggest upgrades for the POCO X7 5G is its design. The device introduces a 3D curved display for the first time in the X-series. It has a plastic construction with curvy sides, a curved display, and a curved back. The phone sports slim bezels on all sides, maximizing the screen-to-body ratio. The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects it from drops, scratches, and impacts. Volume rockers and the power button are on the right side. It has a speaker grille, Type-C port, and SIM card on the base side. The phone also has an IR blaster at the top. So, you can use the phone as a remote control for home appliances.
The phone has a textured back panel and sports a large camera. It is easy to hold and The phone sits easily in your palm and is comfortable to use. However, you may experience accidental touches due to the curved display.
The phone’s IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings ensure excellent dust and water resistance. I already made a video about its durability where it survived drops, water immersion, and more.
Display
POCO X7 5G comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,220 x 2,712p. The display panel has a 120Hz refresh rate to offer smooth visuals. It also has HDR10 and Dolby Vision certification for high-quality video streaming across OTT platforms. The display also offers a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, making it one of the best displays available in this price range. With a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, the screen is easily readable under direct sunlight.
The smartphone has a stereo speaker setup that provides loud and clear audio. So, it offers an impressive multimedia experience. The phone also has an in-display fingerprint sensor that quickly unlocks the phone. Thanks to Wet Touch 2.0, it also works fine even when your hands are wet.
Performance and Software
The POCO X7 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset which is a 4nm octa-core chip operating at up to 2.5GHz. It is supported by up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. While this setup handles day-to-day tasks like web browsing, social media, and streaming efficiently, it struggles to maintain high performance in intensive tasks like gaming. But I still rate it as a high-performance device considering its price point.
Here are the benchmark scores.
The phone can run most games on high settings without any problem. However, there were occasional frame drops and touch response delays. But this won’t affect your gaming experience. Even during longer sessions, there was only minimal throttling and it also doesn’t heat much. This phone still can’t challenge flagship phones, but it is powerful enough for a good gaming performance at a competitive price point.
The POCO X7 5G runs on Android 14-based HyperOS, which introduces new AI features like Google Gemini, Photomoji, and Chat with Gemini. There are several pre-installed apps that most people won’t like as they add to the clutter. However, they can be uninstalled if unwanted.
Camera
The camera setup of the POCO X7 5G consists of a 50MP Sony LYT 600 primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. For selfies, there’s a 20MP front camera.
In daylight, the POCO X7 5G captures detailed and vibrant images with good color accuracy, although the colors are slightly boosted for a warmer tone. The primary camera produces sharp images. The ultra-wide-angle lens also captures good photos but is slightly less detailed. In low-light conditions, the camera’s performance drops, with noise creeping in and a reduction in detail. The AI Night mode improves things but still falls short compared to some competitors.
The front camera is good for bright and clear shots. However, it still softens facial details even if you turn off beauty mode. Low-light selfies aren’t great, and there’s noticeable noise, which could have been better.
The rear camera can record up to 4K 30-fps videos. It records detailed and stable videos from the rear camera. You can record 1080p at 60fps from the front camera. This is also good for video calls and vlogging videos.
Battery
POCO X7 5G provides a comprehensive set of connectivity options to ensure you stay connected. The phone supports offering faster download and upload speeds. It also has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. You also get NFC for making contactless payments using mobile wallets.
The POCO X7 5G packs a 5,500mAh battery, offering solid battery life, and can easily last for a full day. However, POCO has decreased the fast charging speed from 67W (seen in the X6) to 45W. The phone charges to 30% in just 15 minutes and 62% in 30 minutes. It takes around 65 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%. Charging speed is slower than some competitors, like the Moto Edge 50 Neo, which charges faster with its 68W support. But 45W is still really good.
Wrap Up
The POCO X7 5G is a well-rounded smartphone that is notable for display quality, multimedia experience, camera performance in daylight, and battery life. It also has a strong build making it a reliable daily driver. Performance is also good enough for most people. The low-light camera capabilities don’t quite match up to competitors and software experience could have been better. POCO should consider dropping bloatware.
If you prioritize multimedia usage, reliable battery life, and solid performance for day-to-day tasks, the POCO X7 5G is a great option at its price point.
