IMEI or International Mobile Equipment Identity is a unique number of a mobile network device. It is usually found printing on gadgets’ boxes and can also be checked on smartphones using different ways. The IMEI number is a unique 15-digit code where the first 14 digits are defined by the GSM association organization and the last digit is generated by an algorithm. IMEI number identifies a valid device and is used to locate a stolen smartphone. IMEI number can also tell where the phone was made and what is the model number.

The IMEI number serves different purposes. As the IMEI number uniquely identifies a device, it can be used to blacklist a stolen device so it doesn’t work and becomes useless.

If you want to check the IMEI number of your smartphone, you can find it printed on the smartphone’s box.

If you don’t have the box with you, you can use the USSD code. Open the dialer app on your phone and dial *#06#. It will display the IMEI number on the screen. This USSD code works on both Android and iOS.

Alternatively, you can also check IMEI in the Settings -> About section of the smartphone. It also works on both Android and iOS.

If you are buying an old device from some stranger person, make sure you check the IMEI number of the phone and match it with the IMEI printed on the box.
