Manufacturers list plenty of specifications and features, but it is not always clear what they actually mean or whether they will make a difference while gaming. You may see 50mm drivers, virtual 7.1 surround sound, spatial audio, 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, ANC, noise-cancelling microphones, memory foam ear cushions and many other terms on the same product page.

Not every feature deserves the same attention. A large driver does not automatically mean better sound, and a headset with more audio modes is not necessarily better for competitive gaming. Similarly, wireless does not automatically mean noticeable audio delay, while Bluetooth and dedicated 2.4GHz wireless are not the same thing.

However, good gaming audio is not simply about making the game louder. The headset should be able to separate different sounds and reproduce them clearly.
