Microsoft has updated the notebook lineup with the launch of the new Surface Laptop 5. Surface Laptop 5 comes in both 13.5 and 15-inch display sizes and starts at $1,000 and $1,200 respectively. This time, Microsoft is only using Intel’s Evo platform.

Surface Laptop 5 with a 13.5-inch display offers a 2256 x 1504 pixels resolution and the 15-inch model has a 2496 x 1664 pixels resolution. The display in both models has Dolby Vision IQ support.

The 13.5-inch model comes in Intel’s 12th Gen Core i5-1235U processor and Core i7-1255U processors. The 15-inch model is shipped with Core i7-1255U. All the models feature Intel’s Iris Xe graphics. The base model gets 256GB storage and it goes up to 1TB. It comes with 8GB of RAM and can be up to 32GB.

The laptop also gets an IR camera for Windows Hello face login, dual far-field mics, and Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Atmos. Microsoft promises improved camera performance. The camera can now automatically adjust to lighting conditions, skin tones, and others to offer an enhanced camera experience.

New Surface Laptop models feature Thunderbolt 4. It will surely be good for creators who need high-speed data transfers and support for multiple 4K monitors. The 13-inch model of Surface Laptop 5 promises up to 18 hours and the 15-inch model offers 17 hours of battery backup.

The Surface Laptop 5 will be up for pre-order in select markets starting today. It will start shipping beginning on October 25th.
