Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has leaked online just before its official PC release. The leak appears to be linked to a preload issue on Steam, and early reports suggest that pirates were able to access the full game before launch.
The situation was first noticed after a build of the game started appearing on torrent and piracy forums. Unlike typical preloads, which are encrypted and cannot be played until release, this version was reportedly uploaded without proper protection. By the time the issue was fixed, the files had already been downloaded and shared.
This is not a small leak. The game files are said to be over 100GB, and early indications suggest that it is a complete build. While Steam’s basic protections were in place, they were quickly bypassed, which allowed the game to spread.
Sony-published PC games usually do not use strong anti-piracy systems like Denuvo. This makes them easier to crack compared to some other titles. In this case, the lack of heavy protection seems to have made things worse after the preload mistake.
The leaked version does not support online features. The game includes an asynchronous multiplayer system where players indirectly help each other by building structures and improving the world. That part will not work in pirated copies.
Such incidents usually come down to small mistakes during deployment. Preloads are meant to prevent exactly this kind of situation. If encryption is missing even for a short time, it creates an opening that spreads quickly.
This incident is a lesson for developers and publishers to understand how critical release processes are.
