Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced a major new partnership with Bad Robot Games, the gaming arm of filmmaker J.J. Abrams’ production company. Under the agreement, Sony will produce and publish a brand-new, four-player cooperative shooter being developed by Bad Robot Games. The game will release on PlayStation 5 and PC.
The project will be directed by Mike Booth, who is known for co-creating the classic co-op shooter Left 4 Dead. According to Bad Robot Games CEO Anna Sweet, the studio aims to deliver “a bold, innovative experience” that blends cinematic vision and cooperative gameplay. Booth’s involvement signals the game could recapture some of the tension, teamwork, and replayability that made Left 4 Dead a cult favourite.
Sony’s own leadership appears confident about the collaboration. Christian Svensson, VP at SIE, praised Bad Robot’s creative approach and said the project aligns with Sony’s goal to bring deeply resonant experiences to players.
The announcement is notable because Bad Robot Games has spent the past few years contributing to other projects, but this will be its first major game developed entirely in-house. It also marks Sony’s continued interest in supporting outside studios that offer unique ideas rather than relying only on first-party teams.
The new shooter does not have a name or release window yet, but early expectations are already high. As of now, the game is simply confirmed for PS5 and PC, with more updates promised in the coming months.
