Microsoft has officially announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the classic Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. The game is being developed by Halo Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios. It will be released in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Microsoft Store). It will also be available on Game Pass at launch.
This remake is special because it will be the first Halo game ever released on PlayStation.
For more than two decades, Halo has been seen as the face of Xbox. It helped define console shooters and built a massive community of loyal fans. Seeing the franchise now expand to PlayStation marks a big shift in how Xbox is approaching its biggest games.
During the Halo World Championship 2025, Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard said this move is “a long time coming.” He mentioned that the team is excited to bring more players into the world of Halo and let new fans experience what made the game so special 24 years ago.
This decision also shows how gaming is changing. The lines between platforms are becoming thinner. Xbox and PlayStation players will now share the same Halo experience for the first time in history.
Halo: Campaign Evolved has been rebuilt from the ground up with modern graphics, new cinematics, and refined gameplay.
Players will relive Master Chief’s original journey, but this time with smoother controls, new animations, and a richer presentation. The remake will also include three new prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, expanding the story before the events of the original game.
The developers promise that the remake will still capture the feeling of wonder and heroism that made the first Halo unforgettable.
The game is being built for everyone. Even the long-time fans will get to rediscover the game that started it all. The campaign can be played solo, in split-screen co-op, or online with friends. It will also support full cross-play and cross-progression. That means players on different platforms can play together and carry their progress anywhere.
The remake also adds nine new weapons from other Halo titles and introduces the ability to hijack vehicles during combat. One of the most interesting additions is the campaign remix system. Players can replay any mission using “Skulls,” modifiers that change how the game behaves. These can make combat harder, funnier, or completely unpredictable by altering enemies, weapons, and the environment.
