Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Housemarque have announced that their upcoming title Saros will launch on March 20, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5. The first gameplay trailer has also been released, giving players a detailed look at the action and world of the game.
Set on the shape-shifting alien planet Carcosa, Saros promises an intense third-person action experience. The planet changes with every death, offering players new environments and enemies to face each time. The main character, Arjun Devraj (played by Rahul Kohli), explores Carcosa as a total eclipse approaches. He is later joined by Nitya Chandran (played by Shunori Ramanthan), one of the key characters in the story.
The gameplay reveal focuses on Saros’ evolved combat system. Players will be able to choose their loadout from both Soltari human weaponry and Carcosan alien weaponry at the start of each run. In the trailer, Arjun uses the Soltari Phosphorous Shotgun while showcasing abilities like the Soltari Shield, which absorbs enemy projectiles, and the Carcosan Power Weapon, a devastating eclipse-fueled attack.
Housemarque has also added permanent progression systems, such as upgrading the Soltari combat suit and abilities. One highlight is the “Second Chance” ability, allowing Arjun to rise once after death using eclipse corruption energy.
Alongside action, Saros places a strong emphasis on storytelling. Players will discover Carcosa’s mysteries through cinematics, voiceovers, audio logs, NPC interactions, and Soltari holograms.
The game’s soundtrack is composed by Grammy Award-winning Sam Slater, known for his work on Chernobyl and Joker. His dark-electronic and drone-metal score aims to deliver a unique atmosphere to the game.
The game is built in Unreal Engine 5 and runs at 60fps on PlayStation 5. Saros is being developed in collaboration with teams like XDEV, Nixxes, and PlayStation Studios Creative Arts.
