The Blood of Dawnwalker has sold more than 1 million copies within days of its launch, giving developer Rebel Wolves a strong start for its debut game.
The dark fantasy RPG launched on September 3 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rebel Wolves announced the one-million sales milestone on September 5, roughly three days after launch. The developer has not shared a platform-by-platform breakdown of the sales.
The sales milestone is notable because The Blood of Dawnwalker is a new IP from a relatively new studio. Rebel Wolves was founded in 2022 by former CD Projekt Red developers, including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The strong sales have also been accompanied by significant player activity on PC.
According to Steam data tracked by Techlomedia Gaming, The Blood of Dawnwalker reached an all-time peak of 78,188 concurrent players on Steam a few hours ago. At the time of writing the article, over 29,000 players were playing the game simultaneously on Steam.
It is important to understand that the Steam figures only represent the PC audience playing through Steam. The reported one million sales include PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, so the two numbers cannot be directly compared to determine how many owners are actively playing.
Twitch activity provides another indication of the attention around the game. Techlomedia Gaming’s Twitch data shows 17,486 active viewers watching 500 live channels featuring The Blood of Dawnwalker. The game recorded a 24-hour peak of 47,308 Twitch viewers, while its all-time peak reached 160,910 viewers.
These figures do not represent unique people who played the game. Twitch viewers can watch multiple streams, and a single viewer can contribute to the audience count across different time periods. However, the numbers show that the game has generated considerable interest outside the game itself.
Taken together, the early data presents a strong launch picture. The Blood of Dawnwalker has crossed one million sales, reached nearly 80,000 simultaneous Steam players and generated an all-time Twitch peak of more than 160,000 viewers.
The next few weeks will be more important for understanding how much of that launch momentum the game can maintain. For now, the available numbers point to strong initial demand rather than simply a short-lived launch spike.
The game’s appeal is helped by its unusual premise. Players control Coen, a character who can fight as a human during the day and use vampire abilities at night. The game is set in a fictional version of 14th-century Europe, where powerful vampires have taken control of the Vale Sangora region.
Time is also an important part of the gameplay. Coen has a limited amount of time to save his family, while decisions made during the campaign can affect how the story develops.
For Rebel Wolves, the early performance is an important validation of its first release. The studio has managed to launch a completely new IP and attract a large audience across multiple platforms within its first few days.
