Google may have quietly revealed the hardware requirements for Gemini Intelligence, and it looks like many Android phones may not fully support the upcoming AI features.
The details were spotted on the Gemini Intelligence page, where Google mentions that the features are only available on Android devices with “the most advanced capabilities and spec requirements.”
One of the biggest requirements is 12GB RAM. This means a lot of budget, and even some mid-range Android phones could miss out on the full Gemini Intelligence experience. Most phones in the affordable segment still come with 6GB or 8GB RAM.
Google also says devices need “qualified flagship chips.” This likely means high-end processors from companies like Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Samsung Electronics.
The company is also pushing heavily for on-device AI. According to the page, supported devices need AI Core integration along with Nano v3 or newer AI models. This suggests Google wants more AI tasks to run directly on phones instead of depending entirely on cloud processing. Running AI locally can improve speed, privacy, and offline functionality.
The requirements also mention advanced media capabilities like HDR, low-light processing, and spatial audio support. Gaming performance is also important, with Google mentioning yearly GPU driver updates.
Apart from hardware, Google is also asking for long-term software support. Devices must provide five Android OS upgrades and six years of quarterly security updates. The page additionally mentions support for AVF and pKVM along with passing quality tests on Android 17 and newer versions.
All this clearly shows that Google wants Gemini Intelligence to work only on high-quality devices capable of handling advanced AI features smoothly.
This could also create a bigger gap between flagship and budget Android phones. Premium phones may get all Gemini Intelligence features, while cheaper devices could receive limited AI tools or miss support completely.
The requirements also show how smartphone companies may start focusing more on RAM, AI hardware, and longer software support in future devices. AI is becoming one of the biggest selling points for smartphones now.
At the moment, Google has not shared a list of supported phones yet. The company also says feature availability will vary depending on device, region, and language.
