Hogwarts Legacy is once again available for free on the Epic Games Store, but this time as part of a special promotional giveaway in partnership with Warner Bros. Games. This is separate from the platform’s regular weekly free game program, which recently offered Oddsparks and Firestone Online Idle RPG.
The open-world RPG, which originally launched in 2023, was one of the biggest game releases of that year. It is set in the magical universe of Harry Potter and takes players back to the 1890s. Players step into the role of a new student joining Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a fifth-year, uncovering secrets that could change the fate of the wizarding world.
Developed by Avalanche Software, the game offers a large open world to explore. This includes iconic locations like Hogwarts castle, Hogsmeade, and the Forbidden Forest. Players can travel using broomsticks and magical mounts while completing quests, battling dark wizards, and discovering hidden collectibles.
This giveaway is part of the 25-year anniversary celebrations of the Harry Potter film franchise. However, it is worth noting that this is not the first time the game has been offered for free. Hogwarts Legacy was also available as a free title on the Epic Games Store during the holiday season in December 2025.
The game is available on both the Epic Games Store and Steam. But we have Steam Player data to understand how the game performs even after 3 years of its release. The game currently has around 7,000 concurrent players, with a 24-hour peak of 7,087 players. Over the past 30 days, it reached a peak of 12,784 players. While these numbers are much lower than its all-time peak of 879,308 players recorded in February 2023, they still show that the game continues to attract a steady audience even years after launch.
This trend is quite normal for a single-player title. Most players complete the story and move on, leading to a drop after the initial release hype. However, the fact that thousands of players are still active daily suggests ongoing interest, likely driven by discounts, updates, and giveaways like the current Epic Games Store promotion.
The current giveaway is live for a limited time and will end on May 3. Once claimed, the game will remain in your library permanently. Players who missed the previous giveaway now have another chance to grab this popular title at no cost.
