Apple has quietly removed the 256GB storage option from its Mac mini lineup. This means the entry-level model that was earlier priced at $599 (Rs. 59,990 in India) is no longer available.

The Mac mini now starts at $799 (Rs. 79,990 in India). However, this is not a direct price increase. Apple has not changed the pricing of any existing configuration. Instead, it has discontinued the lowest storage variant, which makes the 512GB model the new base option.

Earlier, buyers had the flexibility to choose a more affordable 256GB model. Interestingly, this change is limited to the Mac mini for now. Other Mac devices still offer 256GB storage options, so Apple has not made a broader change across its lineup.

During a recent earnings call, Tim Cook said the company is exploring different ways to deal with rising memory costs. He also acknowledged supply constraints for the Mac mini, adding that it could take months for supply to catch up. This suggests the move could be part of Apple’s strategy to manage increasing component costs without officially raising prices

Apple has long charged a premium for storage upgrades. By removing the entry-level option, the company is effectively pushing buyers toward higher storage configurations, which also helps maintain margins.

Apple has not made any official announcement about this change. It appears to be a silent update.
