X has started rolling out new features aimed at improving how users interact with content on the platform. The update includes automatic post translation and a new AI-powered image editing tool, both powered by xAI’s Grok models.
The announcement was shared by Nikita Bier, confirming that the features are now being released to users globally.
The biggest update is automatic translation for posts. With this feature, X will translate posts into the user’s preferred language without requiring manual action.
Users still have some control. They can tap on the settings icon on a translated post and turn off auto translation for specific languages.
X is also introducing a new image editor in its iOS app. The tool includes basic editing options like drawing, adding text, and blurring parts of an image. The blur feature is particularly useful for hiding sensitive details such as faces or personal information.
But the more interesting addition is AI-powered editing. Users can now ask Grok to modify images using simple text prompts. For example, a user can request changes like turning a photo into a painting-style image. The system then generates the edited version based on the prompt.
This feature will be rolled out to Android users at a later stage.
AI image editing is not new. Companies like Google and Adobe have already introduced similar tools. However, X’s implementation comes with some concerns. Earlier this year, the platform faced criticism over the misuse of AI-generated images, including cases where users edited images of others without consent. Following that backlash, the company limited some AI features to paid users.
Social platforms are moving towards more AI-driven experiences. Translation removes language barriers, while AI tools make content creation faster and easier. So, this is a logical step for X.
Features like AI image editing can be powerful, but they also come with risks. Misuse can lead to privacy issues and misinformation if not handled properly. If X can manage these concerns while keeping the tools useful, these updates could improve the overall experience. If not, it may face the same criticism again.
