Electronic Arts has announced that it will soon end support for the console versions of Battlefield Hardline. The game will be removed from digital stores on May 22, while online services will shut down on June 22.
This change affects players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After June 22, online multiplayer will no longer be available on these platforms. However, players who already own the game will still be able to play the single-player campaign.
The PC version of Battlefield Hardline is not impacted. The game will continue to be available on Steam and EA’s own PC app. Players on PC can still access both single-player and online modes for now.
EA did not give a specific reason for shutting down the console versions. The company pointed users to its general FAQ, where it mentions common reasons like declining player numbers. This is a usual step taken by publishers when older games no longer have an active player base.
Battlefield Hardline was first released in 2015. Over time, its player base has reduced significantly. According to Battlefield Hardline Steam Charts, the game has seen a peak of just 292 concurrent players in the past 12 months. It shows how interest in the game has dropped.
