A new report suggests that Disney may be interested in acquiring Epic Games. The discussion comes from tech journalist Alex Heath, who, at The Town Podcast, claimed some senior Disney executives are already in favor of the idea. However, nothing is confirmed yet.
According to the discussion, Disney sees Epic Games as a strong partner to expand its presence in gaming and interactive entertainment. Fortnite already hosts concerts, events, and brand collaborations. So, it fits well into Disney’s larger entertainment ecosystem.
At the same time, not everyone inside Disney agrees with this move. Some executives think acquiring Epic could be risky. One big reason is that Epic is still controlled by its founder, Tim Sweeney, who has full control over major decisions. If Epic ever sells, it will completely depend on him.
