Microsoft has released PowerToys version 0.97.1 for Windows users. This is a small but important update that focuses on fixing crashes and stability issues reported after the recent 0.97.0 release. The update is now available and is recommended for all PowerToys users.
Earlier this month, Microsoft introduced PowerToys 0.97.0 with new features such as CursorWrap and expanded support for the Command Palette. While the feature update added useful tools, it also caused several utilities to crash or behave unpredictably. Version 0.97.1 is designed to fix these problems and improve overall reliability.
One of the major fixes in this update targets Advanced Paste. Some users experienced crashes when opening its settings page. Microsoft has now resolved this issue, making the settings interface more stable.
The Command Palette has also received multiple improvements. Bugs that caused inconsistent command switching have been fixed. Issues with missing personalization options and problems loading icons from internet shortcuts have also been addressed, resulting in smoother performance.
Peek, the built-in file preview tool, is now more reliable. The update reduces random crashes and fixes an issue where pressing the Space key could trigger Peek while users were renaming files, searching, or typing in the address bar.
PowerRename users will benefit from a fix related to bulk file renaming. A bug that prevented adding text at the end of file names when using regular expressions has been resolved, making large renaming tasks work as expected.
CursorWrap has been refined further in this update. It now handles multi-monitor setups better and can detect changes when switching between laptop and desktop use. Microsoft has also added new options that allow users to limit cursor wrapping to horizontal-only, vertical-only, or both directions.
The Runner tray icon has also been improved. It now follows the Windows system theme instead of the app theme. The right-click menu has been fixed to update correctly based on Quick Access settings. For enterprise environments, Microsoft has added CursorWrap policy support to Group Policy templates.
PowerToys version 0.97.1 can be downloaded from the official GitHub repository. Users who installed the previous update and faced crashes or glitches should update as soon as possible for a smoother experience.
