The second season of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series is seeing strong viewership and positive reactions since its release in December 2025. With the season now close to its finale, Bethesda has moved to capitalize on the renewed interest in the Fallout universe by making Fallout 76 free to play for a limited time.
The free-to-play event for Fallout 76 is now live and will run until February 4. During this period, players can jump into the game without any purchase. This offers an easy entry point for fans who want more Fallout content while waiting for the show’s conclusion.
Fallout 76 was released in 2018 and is Bethesda Game Studios’ only multiplayer-focused Fallout title. The game is set in the open world of Appalachia, where players explore a shared wasteland filled with NPCs and other real players. Base building plays a major role, allowing players to construct and manage their own settlements.
Since launch, Fallout 76 has undergone major changes. Bethesda has steadily expanded the game with regular content updates, adding new quests and locations that are available to all players for free. Last year, the game introduced the ability to play as a Ghoul, a feature fans of the franchise had been requesting for years.
The most recent Burning Springs update strengthened the link between the game and the TV series. It introduced The Ghoul character, portrayed by Walton Goggins in the Fallout show, into Fallout 76. This crossover suggests Bethesda is actively using the show’s popularity to reintroduce players to the game.
There is a slight mismatch in timing, however. The Fallout Season 2 finale was originally scheduled for February 4 but was moved up to February 3 earlier this month. This change appears to have disrupted what may have been a themed promotional window for Fallout 76.
