Apple has announced a major upgrade for the Vision Pro headset. The new version now runs on Apple’s powerful M5 chip and comes with a redesigned Dual Knit Band for a more comfortable fit. Along with these upgrades, Apple has also introduced visionOS 26, which brings new features, improved performance, and exciting new spatial experiences.
The M5 chip brings a big performance boost to the device. It is built on Apple’s latest 3-nanometer technology and offers faster processing, smoother app performance, and sharper visuals. The M5’s 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU make everything feel more fluid, whether you are browsing, working, or playing games. It also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which means lighting and reflections in games will look more realistic than before.
Apple says the new chip renders 10 percent more pixels. It makes text and visuals even crisper on the Vision Pro’s custom micro-OLED displays. The device also supports refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother motion. The battery now lasts up to two and a half hours for general use and up to three hours for video playback, with the option to stay connected to power for longer sessions.
The Dual Knit Band is another major highlight. It is designed to provide a better balance and fit, with soft, breathable material and flexible ribs that add stability. The Fit Dial lets users fine-tune the fit easily. It is available in multiple sizes and can also be purchased separately for existing Vision Pro users.
The new VisionOS 26 makes the Vision Pro even more versatile. Users can now place widgets around them, enjoy spatial photos, use updated Personas for more natural video calls, and watch immersive 180-degree or 360-degree videos from popular action cameras. Developers can also build new apps and experiences using the enhanced tools available in visionOS 26.
The Apple TV app now features hundreds of 3D movies and immersive shows. Apple Immersive will soon bring live NBA games and new titles from brands like BBC, Red Bull, and HYBE. Gamers will enjoy better visuals, faster response times, and support for the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller for a truly immersive gaming experience.
Apple Vision Pro with the M5 chip and Dual Knit Band is now available for pre-order on Apple’s website and will hit stores nationwide on October 22.
