Spotify has finally started rolling out Lossless audio for Premium users. This has been one of the most requested features on the platform. Spotify first promised it back in February 2021, but users had to wait four years to actually get it. The rollout has now begun in select countries and will reach more than 50 markets through October.

With Lossless, Premium users can stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality. This means you can hear music with much greater detail compared to standard streaming. Every sound, instrument, and layer becomes clearer, whether you are exploring a new release or revisiting old favorites.

Lossless audio can be used on mobile, desktop, and tablet. It also works on devices that support Spotify Connect, including speakers and headphones from brands like Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices will be added next month.

How to Enable Lossless on Spotify

You will need to turn on the feature manually. Here’s how:

  • Open Spotify and tap your profile icon in the top left.
  • Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
  • Choose Lossless for Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads.

When Lossless is active, you will see a Lossless indicator in the Now Playing view and Connect Picker.

Spotify warns that Lossless files are much larger than standard streams. They may take a moment to load the first time, but playback will be smooth once cached. For the best results, the company recommends using wired headphones or speakers through Spotify Connect, as Bluetooth connections still compress audio.

To give users flexibility, Spotify allows you to pick quality levels: Low, Normal, High, Very High, and Lossless. The app also shows how much data each setting consumes, helping you make informed choices for Wi-Fi, mobile data, or downloads.

Lossless is already available to Premium subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK. More countries will follow through by October.
