Plex Urges Users to Reset Passwords After New Security Breach

Media streaming service Plex has suffered another security incident, and users are being asked to reset their passwords immediately. The company confirmed that an unauthorized third party gained access to one of its databases, exposing emails, usernames, and hashed passwords of a limited number of customers.

Plex explained that the stolen passwords were securely hashed, which means they cannot be directly read. However, as a precaution, the company is asking users to reset their passwords and enable two-factor authentication. Plex also recommends signing out of all connected devices to make sure accounts are protected.

The company reassured users that credit card information was not exposed in the breach since Plex does not store that data on its servers. In a notice sent out to customers, Plex said it has already fixed the method used to gain access and is strengthening its systems to prevent future attacks.

This is not the first time Plex has faced a security problem. In 2022, the company experienced a similar breach where login data was compromised. The repeated incident may raise concerns among users about how secure the platform really is, despite Plex’s promises of stronger protections.

For now, the company’s advice is clear: reset your password, sign out of devices, and enable two-factor authentication. To make account management easier and safer, you can also use a password manager like NordPass to generate and store strong, unique passwords. While the damage appears to be limited, it is always safer to act quickly in cases like this.
