OpenAI and NVIDIA have announced a new partnership that could change the future of artificial intelligence. NVIDIA has committed up to $100 billion to support OpenAI’s growing AI infrastructure.

OpenAI will deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems. This means millions of GPUs will be used to train and run the next generation of AI models. The investment will not come at once. Instead, OpenAI will get the support as NVIDIA’s systems are deployed in stages.

The first stage will go live in the second half of 2026 with NVIDIA’s upcoming Vera Rubin platform. This platform will deliver 8 exaflops of AI compute, which is 7.5 times more powerful than current NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems. Each rack will also have 100TB of fast memory and 1.7 petabytes per second of bandwidth.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said that this partnership marks the next leap in AI:

“NVIDIA and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT. This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward—deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stressed the role of compute in shaping the economy of the future:

“Everything starts with compute. Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”

NVIDIA will also become OpenAI’s preferred compute and networking partner. Both companies will align their technology plans to make OpenAI’s models work better with NVIDIA’s hardware and software.

This deal adds to OpenAI’s other partnerships with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate. NVIDIA now joins the list as a key partner in OpenAI’s AI expansion.

This is one of the biggest commitments ever made in AI infrastructure. It shows how much computing power is needed to build future AI systems. With NVIDIA’s technology and investment, OpenAI aims to create stronger AI tools and make them available at scale.
