Lenovo Announces Legion Go 2: A More Powerful Handheld Gaming PC Starting at $1,099

Lenovo has officially launched the Legion Go 2, its new flagship handheld gaming PC. The device comes as the successor to last year’s Legion Go, but this time it is bigger, heavier, and more expensive. The starting price is $1,099, which is $400 higher than the original model.

The Legion Go 2 keeps its Switch-like detachable controllers, built-in kickstand, and hidden optical mouse, but now adds a larger battery and a better display. The new 74Wh battery is about 50 percent bigger than before, which should help with longer play sessions.

One of the biggest highlights is the new 8.8-inch OLED display. It offers a resolution of 1920 x 1200, supports 30–144Hz variable refresh rate (VRR), and has a peak brightness of up to 1000 nits. The original Legion Go lacked VRR, which made gaming less smooth. The lower resolution compared to the first model should also make it easier for the new AMD Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme chip to deliver better frame rates.

Lenovo is using AMD’s new Z2 series chips. These are not massive upgrades over the older Z1 Extreme, but Lenovo may have optimized performance for smoother gameplay. Buyers will also get 1TB storage by default, with options going up to 2TB. Most models now come with 32GB of RAM, while the base version includes 16GB. Lenovo has also added a fingerprint reader in the power button for faster logins.

The controllers have also seen improvements. They now feature a proper D-pad, drift-resistant Hall effect joysticks, and better design for comfort. The right controller’s FPS mouse accessory now locks into place to avoid slipping during use. Interestingly, these new controllers will also work with the original Legion Go.

However, the higher price may be a sticking point. The base version with AMD Z2, 16GB RAM, and 1TB storage costs $1,099. The 32GB RAM version is priced at $1,199, while the Z2 Extreme with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage will cost $1,349. The top model with 2TB storage goes for $1,479.

Lenovo is also offering the cheaper Legion Go S with SteamOS at $830, aimed at those who do not want to spend over $1,000. For now, there is no SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2, and Lenovo has not confirmed if the device will get Microsoft’s new Xbox full-screen mode at launch. Some Windows handhelds may receive it in 2026.

The Legion Go 2 will be available this October. With its improved display, bigger battery, and refined controls, it is shaping up to be one of the most powerful handheld gaming PCs yet. But with a starting price above $1,000, it is clear that high-end portable gaming is moving further into premium territory.
