According to the latest report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India’s telecom sector saw mixed results in July 2025. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel continued to grow by adding new subscribers, while Vodafone-Idea and BSNL lost more users. The report also highlighted a sharp rise in Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests. It shows that many people are switching networks instead of staying with their current operators.
Reliance Jio added 4.82 lakh new subscribers in July and remained the country’s largest operator. Airtel was close behind with 4.64 lakh new users. Vodafone-Idea lost 3.59 lakh subscribers, and BSNL’s user base dropped by 1.00 lakh despite recently launching 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services in parts of South India, including Hyderabad.
Jio continues to lead with a 41.04% market share and 47.75 crore users. Airtel holds the second spot with a 33.65% share and 39.1 crore subscribers. Vodafone-Idea’s share has fallen to 17.52% with 20.3 crore users, while BSNL is at 7.77% with 9.3 crore subscribers.
TRAI reported that 1.54 crore users switched operators in July through Mobile Number Portability (MNP). This reflects the intense competition in the telecom market and the growing demand for better services.
By the end of July 2025, India had 116.35 crore mobile subscribers, up from 116.03 crore in June. The total wireless base, including 5G FWA users, reached 117.19 crore.
