Capcom has finally revealed Resident Evil 9, and it is called Resident Evil Requiem. The game was announced during the Summer Game Fest 2025, and the debut trailer gave us our first real look. It will be released on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The trailer introduces a new lead character, Grace Ashcroft. She is an FBI technical analyst and might be the main playable character. Grace is investigating a string of strange deaths that seem to be linked to her past. She is ordered to return to the place where her mother was murdered. It is a painful mission, but Grace decides to face it. The trailer shows her strapped to a gurney, and someone tells her, “You’re the one I’ve been searching for… the special one.” This adds mystery to her role and leaves us wondering — what makes Grace so important?
Interestingly, Grace seems to be the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a journalist from Resident Evil Outbreak. That adds another layer of connection for longtime fans of the series.
The trailer also teases a ruined version of Raccoon City. The city was destroyed at the end of Resident Evil 3, but this version looks like we will get to explore more of it in an open-world style. We even get a glimpse of the destroyed Raccoon City Police Department. This could mean the game will bring back familiar locations, but in a darker, more terrifying way.
Host Geoff Keighley said that Resident Evil Requiem marks a bold shift in tone and gameplay. It will still be survival horror, but with more cinematic action. This could be a mix of classic horror and modern storytelling, something Capcom has done well in recent entries.
There are also rumors that Leon S. Kennedy might appear in the game. Some leaks even claim he will be the main character, with Grace playing a key supporting role. Capcom has not confirmed this, so we will have to wait and see.
The game is being built on the RE Engine, so we can expect great visuals and smooth performance. Capcom is likely aiming to push the franchise forward while still keeping the spooky and intense feel that fans love.
With its release set for early 2026, we can expect more trailers and updates in the coming months. Until then, Resident Evil Requiem looks like a thrilling mix of old-school horror and fresh ideas — and we cannot wait to play it.
