Google has launched the NotebookLM app for Android devices, just a day before its annual developer event, Google I/O 2025. This early release comes a day ahead of its planned rollout and brings the AI-powered tool to mobile users for the first time.
NotebookLM was first introduced in 2023 as an AI-based research and note-taking assistant, but until now, it was only available on desktop. With the Android app now live, users can access the service on the go. An iOS version is expected to arrive on May 20.
NotebookLM helps users understand complex information using features like smart summaries and the ability to ask questions about uploaded documents. One of the standout features in the mobile app is Audio Overviews. These are short podcast-like audio clips created by AI, based on the user’s documents. Users can listen to these even while offline or in the background while using other apps.
The app also allows users to create new notebooks, upload documents from their device, and access notebooks they have already created. It supports both light and dark modes, which follow the phone’s system settings.
The launch of the mobile version comes at a time when Google is expected to talk more about AI at its I/O keynote. NotebookLM’s mobile version offers the same core features as its desktop version, now in a more convenient format.
Google teased the mobile version last month, and now it is officially available on the Play Store. The iOS version will follow soon. More updates about the app may be revealed during the I/O keynote.
