Google has started rolling out a new feature in Gmail that uses Gemini to automatically summarize your emails. Earlier, you had to tap on “Summarize this email” to get a quick summary, but now this will happen by default.
The summary will appear at the top of your email, but only for messages where Gemini thinks it is useful, like long email threads or conversations with multiple replies.
Gemini will collect all the key points from the email thread and show them in a short summary. If someone replies later, the summary will update automatically to include the new information.

Right now, the feature only works for emails written in English. If Gemini does not find a summary helpful, it will not show one automatically. But you can still tap the “Summarize this email” button to get a manual summary.
This feature is being rolled out gradually and may take up to 15 days to reach everyone. It will be available only to Google Workspace users, Google One AI Premium users, and those with Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium plans.
