OPPO F29 5G and F29 Pro 5G Launched in India

OPPO F29 Series

OPPO has officially launched its latest smartphones, the F29 5G and F29 Pro 5G, in India. Both devices feature Full HD+ 120Hz AMOLED displays and are designed to endure challenging environmental conditions. These phones feature a 360° Armour Body and certifications for over 14 military-grade environmental tests.

The F29 series has undergone rigorous testing, including assessments for high and low temperatures, shock resistance, rain, freezing water, sand, dust, salt mist, solar radiation, humidity, vibration, fluid contamination, mold, and acceleration. I am not sure if this was actually needed or just something they did for marketing the phone. The phone also has IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for offering top-tier protection against dust and water ingress.

OPPO F29 5G

The OPPO F29 5G features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. The display can reach up to 1200 nits peak brightness for good outdoor visibility. The display also has Corning Gorilla Glass 7i to ensure durability against scratches and minor drops.

OPPO F29 5G

The phone packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset, a 4nm octa-core processor, which is paired with an Adreno 710 GPU. While this chipset provides a decent balance between performance and power efficiency, it may not match the raw power of some competitors in the same price segment. The phone is available in 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

It has a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, along with a 2MP monochrome sensor for added depth. The 16MP front camera with an f/2.4 aperture is also there for sharp selfies and video calls.

It also has 5G connectivity, dual SIM, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and multiple navigation systems. The phone includes an in-display fingerprint sensor for quick and secure unlocking. The phone packs a massive 6500mAh battery and supports 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging.

OPPO F29 Pro 5G

The OPPO F29 Pro 5G is an upgraded version that features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with the same 120Hz refresh rate, but a higher peak brightness of 2100 nits. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which offers better drop and scratch resistance than the standard Gorilla Glass 7i on the F29 5G.

OPPO F29 Pro 5G

It is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy chipset, which is built on a 4nm process and is a capable mid-range processor. The phone comes in 8GB and 12GB RAM variants, with storage options of 128GB and 256GB (UFS 3.1).

The smartphone has 50MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, supported by a 2MP monochrome sensor. For selfies, it has 16MP front-facing camera.

It has an in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric security. The phone also has 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and a range of GPS and navigation systems. It packs a 6000mAh battery with support for 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging.

Pricing and Availability

The OPPO F29 5G starts at ₹23,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 8GB + 256GB model costs ₹25,999. The F29 Pro 5G is priced at ₹27,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, ₹29,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant, and ₹31,999 for the top-end 12GB + 256GB model.

Pre-orders for both phones begin today, March 20th, with the F29 5G going on sale from March 27th and the F29 Pro 5G from April 1st. Customers can buy these phones through Amazon.in, Flipkart, OPPO’s official online store, and offline retail outlets.

How Does It Compare to the Competition?

In the Indian market, the F29 series faces competition from devices like the iQOO Neo 10R, which boasts a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, a 6.78-inch display, and a 6400mAh battery. Additionally, Samsung’s Galaxy A36, priced at approximately ₹32,000, offers a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 5000mAh battery, and promises six years of software updates.

OPPO F29 Series comes with AMOLED displays, military-grade durability, strong battery life, and IP69 certification. However, if performance is your priority, you might find better options. The pricing of the F29 series is slightly on the higher side, considering its chipset performance and camera setup.
