Qualcomm launched its flagship chipset Snapdragon 8 Elite last year in October. Now the company has silently introduced a new variant of 8 Elite with a 7-core CPU as opposed to an 8-core CPU in the original chipset. This new chipset could be used in affordable flagship Android phones.
The new variant of Snapdragon 8 Elite adopts a 2+5 core configuration. It has 2 x Oryon Prime CPUs clocked at up to 4.32GHz and 5 x Oryon Performance CPUs running at up to 3.53GHz. Other specifications are similar to the original Snapdragon 8 Elite. Although the new variant is slightly less powerful than the original Snapdragon 8 Elite, it is still a capable chipset to offer a balance of performance with cost.

This modification will allow Qualcomm to offer Snapdragon 8 Elite at a lower price point. So, smartphone manufacturers can provide devices powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite at more competitive prices.
Reports also suggest that Qualcomm is also working on another chipset dubbed the Snapdragon 8s Elite. It should be the successor to last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC and could offer a toned-down version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
