Sony has reported notable milestones and insights in its latest financial results for the quarter ending September 30, 2024. During the quarter, Sony shipped 3.8 million PlayStation 5 units, a decrease of 1.1 million from the same period last fiscal year. This brings the total PS5 shipments to an impressive 65.6 million units since its launch.
PlayStation Network’s monthly active users also hit 116 million. This marks an increase of nine million users from the 107 million monthly active users recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Software sales saw a significant boost, with combined PS5 and PS4 software sales totaling 77.7 million units during the quarter. This is up by 10.1 million from the 67.6 million units sold in the same period last year. Of these, games developed by Sony’s in-house studios accounted for 5.3 million units, an increase of 0.6 million from the previous year’s 4.7 million.
Sony has now released the PlayStation 5 Pro. So, sales of PlayStation 5 will further decline, but it will be interesting to see how PlayStation 5 Pro performs for the company. We should know the numbers in the financial results of next quarter.
