Last month, Google introduced Android 15 and most device manufacturers are yet to roll it out to their devices. Surprisingly, Google has already announced Android 16 and started rolling out its first developer beta.
A few days back, it was also reported that Google plans to release Android 16 in early 2025. Today’s release confirms that Google is committed to moving Android’s release timeline forward. By moving the release timeline ahead, Google wants to help device manufacturers make the latest Android version available to more devices quickly.
Android 16 Developer Preview 1 comes with new APIs for reading and writing health records as part of Health Connect. Android’s photo picker has a new API and apps can now embed Android’s photo picker directly into their apps. It also includes the latest version of Privacy Sandbox.
