Brave Browser has rolled out a new feature called “Shred” with version 1.71 for iOS. This is a privacy-centric tool that allows users to delete site-specific browsing data easily.
Several websites use first-party cookies for different purposes including paywall management or tracking usage limits. Some of these cookies can track users across sessions and the data can also be shared with third parties. The Shred feature lets users clear browsing data for individual sites without impacting the overall browsing experience.
There are both manual and automatic options for data deletion. To enable it manually, Users can activate Shred by long-pressing the tabs button and selecting the option from the menu. They can also go to advanced controls to find the ‘Shields’ menu.
If you want it to be enabled Automatically, Navigate to Shields > Advanced Control > Shred Site Data to set Shred to activate automatically when the site’s tabs are closed or the browser is restarted.
Users can also go to Settings > Shields & Privacy > Auto Shred to apply Shred functionality to all sites.
When the feature is activated, it deletes cookies, local storage data, and network-related caches.
The feature will also be released on Android and desktop versions of Brave in the near future. For now, users on Android and the web can use Brave’s existing Forgetful Browsing feature for similar privacy protection.
