The processor’s cache design is noteworthy; the 96MB of L3 cache includes 64MB of 3D V-Cache positioned beneath the core complex die (CCD). This unique architecture helps optimize thermal performance and also ensures the chip maintains high clock speeds without throttling during demanding gaming sessions.
Specifications:
- Cores/Threads: 8 cores, 16 threads
- Base Clock Speed: 4.7 GHz
- Max Boost Clock Speed: 5.2 GHz
- Cache: Total 104MB (96MB L3 + 8MB L1 & L2)
- Thermal Design Power (TDP): 120W
It promises to deliver up to 8% better gaming performance over its predecessor and 20% faster performance than competition. It also boasts an 8% increase in frames per second (FPS) compared to prior models.
Compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K from the Arrow Lake series, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D outpaces it by up to 59% in games like Cyberpunk 2077. Popular titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Counter-Strike 2 also exhibit more than 25% higher performance, while Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail show over 40% performance gains.
AMD has also collaborated with game developers to fine-tune performance on its X3D processors. Games such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Call of Duty benefit from these partnerships
Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the first fully unlocked X3D processor and supports extreme overclocking capabilities. It uses the Zen 5 architecture and advanced cooling mechanisms that the processor supports.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be available starting November 7, 2024. It costs USD 479.
