MediaTek has today announced its latest flagship SoC Dimensity 9400. Dimensity 9400 is said to be the successor to Dimensity 9300 / 9300+ and promises a 40% reduction in power consumption.
Dimensity 9400 uses 2nd generation TSMC’s 3nm process. The SoC includes one Arm Cortex-X925 core running at 3.62GHz, three Arm Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. This combination promises 35 percent faster single-core performance and 28 percent faster multi-core performance compared to the 9300. It also claims to offer up to 40 percent more power efficiency.
The SoC also has Arm’s new 12-core Immortalis-G925 GPU that offers 40 percent faster ray tracing. The GPU also offers 44% less power consumption. MediaTek says that it can achieve a full frame rate even for heavy-loaded mobile games to bring a PC-level gaming experience. There’s also HyperEngine technology for offering impressive picture quality and super-resolution. The PC-level Dimensity OMM ray tracing engine promises realistic gaming light and shadow effects. The Dimensity Star Speed Engine offers more sensitive control, smoother gameplay, and more stunning image quality.
The SoC supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4 storage.
Dimensity 9400 also has an 8th generation AI processor NPU 890 with hardware acceleration for text, image, and speech. It also brings support for Google’s Gemini Nano with a processing capacity of up to 50 tokens/second. So the smartphone powered by Dimensity 9400 will offer powerful AI features. This is also the first mobile chipset to offer on-device LoRA training, high-quality on-device video generation, and developer support for Agentic AI.
It also boasts 80% faster large language model prompt performance while keeping it 35% more power efficient than the Dimensity 9300. There’s also a new integrated Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) designed to turn traditional AI applications into sophisticated agentic AI applications.
It supports up to WQHD+ display with a 180Hz refresh rate. It also supports Rri-Port MIPI for Tri-fold displays. The SoC supports a Dimensity adaptive HDR display and comes with advanced algorithms to automatically adjust the screen brightness, contrast, and color saturation based on surrounding light. The MediaTek Imagiq 1090 provides HDR video recording. The Smooth Zoom technology makes it easy to capture moving subjects
Dimensity 9400 also has a new 4nm Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip with 7.3Gbps data rates performance while offering 50% lower power consumption. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0 technology can extend coverage to 30 meters.
Vivo X200 series will be the first to use the Dimensity 9400 flagship chip. OPPO has also confirmed that it will use the SoC in its Find X8 series
