LinkedIn introduced a Freelancer Marketplace back in 2021 but it never revealed how this marketplace is doing. Now the company has confirmed that around 10 million people have created Services Marketplace pages on LinkedIn. It also revealed that service requests are also rising and saw a growth of 65% year-over-year.
The professional social networking platform has over 1 billion registered users. Only 1% of its user base took an interest in the freelancer marketplace. Still, 10 million is a good number of 8 service requests per minute is also relatively good engagement.
LinkedIn Freelancer Marketplace was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic when several people lost their jobs. At the time, other freelancing platforms like Fiverr and Upwork also saw a surge in signups. Since Upwork never disclosed freelancers’ data, so we can’t compare if LinkedIn Freelancer Marketplace is doing well or not.

LinkedIn’s Freelancer Marketplace is a good tool for both freelancers and businesses. Freelancers can create a profile to showcase their skills, experience, and portfolio to get freelancer work on LinkedIn. Businesses can also post project requirements, budgets, and timelines for these Freelancers and get proposals from them. They can select the best candidate based on qualification criteria and collaborate on the project.
