Spotify brings back lyrics for free users

In a bid to get more paying customers, Spotify restricted access to lyrics and put it behind a paywall. Free users could only get lyrics for three songs in a month. But users didn’t like the move and protested. Now the company is raising the limit on the number of lyrics free users can access. However, the company didn’t disclose the new limit.

It seems the new limit will vary between markets. But it will be interesting to see how many lyrics free users will now get.

Spotify’s lyrics feature displays lyrics of current songs in real-time as the song plays. It helps users understand the song and enhances the overall experience. The feature was added on Spotify back in November 2021 and the company partnered with Musixmatch to provide lyrics on the app.

When the company put a limit to Lyrics for free users, It received negative reasons from users on social media. Spotify might have now realized that making Lyrics a premium feature didn’t help the company much. Giving it to free users could get more engagement on the app.
