Meta decided to disconnect Messenger and Instagram chats

Meta has confirmed that Instagram users will no longer be able to chat with their Facebook friends on Instagram. The company will remove the cross-platform messaging ability in mid-December.

Starting mid-December, Instagram users will not be able to talk to their Facebook friends on from Instagram app. All existing conversations with Facebook friends will become read-only. So, no one involved in the chat could send any new messages. After this change, Facebook users will no longer be able to see your Activity stats. If you want to talk to your Facebook friends, you will have to use the Messenger app.

Instagram has already published a page in the help section to confirm the change. Here, the company didn’t confirm the exact day when the integration will break. It only used the word Mid-december.

Meta added cross-platform messaging back in 2022 without providing any reason. The feature was optional Zuckerberg had an ambitious plan to bring WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger together. However, a lot of users raised privacy concerns. So, Meta didn’t add WhatsApp to its ambitious single messaging platform. Now that the company is under the radar of the EU, the company decided to drop its plan.
