Meta has updated the Threads app and added the ability to delete the Threads account without affecting the Instagram account. It means users can now delete their Threads account without deleting their Instagram account. Adam Mosseri posted on Threads to confirm this new change.

To delete a Threads account, Open the Threads app and tap the profile button at the bottom right. Now head over to the app settings, tap on ‘Account’ and you will see a new option called ‘Delete or Deactivate profile’.
Users have long requested this option. It feels good when the company listens to users.
When Threads was released, it had a tight integration with Instagram. The integration was so tight that users needed to delete their Instagram account in order to delete their Threads account. Even after the new update, Instagram and Threads are tightly connected, You still need an Instagram account to join Threads. Threads use your Instagram data for recommendations and other features.
The option might not be available to everyone right away. The company is rolling out the option gradually to all the users. You need to update the app to the latest version to get the option.
