Nothing Phone 2 owners will get blue bubbles on iMessage. In surprising news, Nothing has added iMessage to its latest smartphone through the Nothing Chats app powered by the Sunbird messaging platform.
Nothing claims that the reason behind bringing iMessage to Android is because “messaging services are dividing phone users” and the company wants to break those barriers.
The chat app not only turns a green bubble into a blue one, but it also provides access to other iMessage features such as live typing indicators, high-res pictures and video sharing, group messaging, and more.
According to the company, users first need to create or validate an Apple ID “natively on the Apple ecosystem.” After that, use the same credentials to log in to the Chats app. Their credentials are tokenized and assigned to one of Sunbird’s Mac minis in Europe of North America. These Mac minis act as a waypoint for messages.
For people who care for their privacy, Nothing confirms that Sunbird doesn’t store messages on its servers. Messages are delivered from one user to another directly. Sunbird also stores user iCloud credentials as a token “in an encrypted database” to keep them safe from unauthorized access.
Starting this Friday, November 17th, Nothing Phone 2 users in North America, the EU, and other European countries can download the Nothing Chats app.
