WhatsApp Channels are now available globally

WhatsApp Channels

WhatsApp has now rolled out Channels globally. The feature was initially announced back in June. Now you see a new ‘Updates’ tab to access Channels in the app.

Channels are basically one-way broadcasts for creators to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls to their followers. The company is calling organizations, sports teams, artists, and creators to create channels and engage with their followers.

WhatsApp confirmed that it protects the personal information of both admins and followers. Other people won’t know who you follow.

WhatsApp provides a proper directory to find channels to follow. You can check channels based on activity and popularity. After you follow a channel, you can react to posts shared by the admin. If you forward an update from the Channel to a chat or group, it will include a link back to the Channel.

WhatsApp has promised to add more features in Channels to keep it interesting. For now, only select creators and organizations can create channels. Over the coming months, the company will provide everyone an option to create a channel.
