Uber has today announced a new feature ‘Group Rides’ in India. The feature lets users share their rides with up to 3 friends while going to a common destination. Depending on the number of friends you share your ride with, you can save up to 30% of the fare.
To book a Group Ride, tap the Group Ride icon in the Uber app. It will begin with a request for a Group Ride. Now you can invite friends to join the ride by sending them a link to the trip. Your friends can then add their stops and their locations get updated on the ride. After this, wait for the driver-partner and enjoy the ride.
Uber has confirmed that the feature won’t impact drivers’ earnings. They will receive the same amount as they would in Uber Go or Premier rides.
Commenting on the launch of the new feature, Nitish Bhushan, Director of Central Operations, Uber India, said, “We are always innovating for our customers and looking at ways to make travel more affordable and seamless. With Group Rides we are offering customers the option to save more while they are riding with people they know. Not only do riders save money and arrive at the common destination together, they also do the good deed of reducing vehicles on the road by getting more butts in fewer cars.”
Uber claims that the feature also aims to decongest roads by reducing the need for individual vehicles when a group or friends are going to the same destination.
