MSI confirms it suffered a cyber attack

After reports of a ransomware attack, Taiwanese PC maker MSI confirmed it suffered a cyber attack on its network. The company didn’t share any details of the attack or if the attackers got access to business and customer information. However, the company claims that the incident has no operational or financial impact.

“No significant impact our business in terms of financial and operational currently. The Company is also enhancing the information security control measures of its network and infrastructure to ensure data security.”

The company has initiated incident response and recovery measures. It also alerted law enforcement agencies of the matter. Affected systems have also resumed normal operations.

MSI also asks customers to download BIOS and firmware updates from official sources, not from sources other than the official website.

Earlier this week, the Money Message ransomware gang claimed it breached some of MSI’s systems and got access to several files that could be leaked online if MSI doesn’t pay a $4 million ransom.

The ransomware gang also listed MSI data on their data leak site with screenshots of data they have. The screenshot who’s MSI’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) databases and files containing software source code.
