OpenAI has now added support for plugins to ChatGPT. These plugins will enable easy integration of ChatGPT with several third-party services. Plugins will also let ChatGPT access third-party databases and knowledge sources including the web.
ChatGPT plugins are available in Alpha to users and developers on the waitlist. Initially, the company will prioritize a small number of developers and ChatGPT Plus subscribers before making them available on a larger scale.
“Today, we’re beginning to gradually enable existing plugins from our early collaborators for ChatGPT users, beginning with ChatGPT Plus subscribers. We’re also beginning to roll out the ability for developers to create their own plugins for ChatGPT,” OpenAI stated in its official blog.
The most notable plugin is OpenAI’s first-party web-browsing plugin that lets ChatGPT fetch information from the web to answer different queries. The plugin uses Bing search API to retrieve content.
OpenAI has been working on several plugins for ChatGPT to let users book travel, book restaurants, buy groceries, and perform other tasks. We already have a few plugins created by Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram, and Zapier. These plugins serve different purposes.
