Lenovo discontinues Legion gaming phone lineup

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel

Lenovo has discontinued its Legion gaming phone business. The last Legion smartphone was Legion Y70 which was announced back in August last year. Last week, a Lenovo employee commented about the Legion phone business on social media. Now a spokesperson for Lenovo has confirmed to Android Authority that the company has decided to end the Legion phone business.

“Lenovo is discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a wider business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation. As a leader in gaming devices and solutions, Lenovo is committed to advancing the gaming category across form factors, as well as focusing on where it can bring the most value to the global gaming community,” said a Lenovo spokesperson in a statement given to Android Authority.

It seems gaming phones are not doing well. Xiaomi is also struggling to sell Black Shark phones. It also recently laid off hundreds of workers at its facility. Nubia is another brand that makes dedicated gaming phones under the RedMagic lineup. Asus is still working on the ROG phone lineup. The company will unveil ROG Phone 7 on April 13. But ROG phones are also not doing great. You will hardly see a person with a gaming phone in hand.

Lu Weibing, the general manager of Redmi, recently said that users no longer need a separate gaming phone because flagship phones are powerful enough to offer a good gaming experience. I also believe the same. Flagship phones offer good gaming experience and can run all the games available. Now that high refresh rate is common in regular phones, there is no need for a gaming phone.
