Twitter has made SMS-based 2 Factor Authentication exclusive to Twitter Blue subscribers. If you have been using SMS-based 2FA and are not a Twitter Blue subscriber, Twitter will ask you to disable it and use an authenticator app or a security key for using two-factor authentication on the microblogging platform.

If you do not have a Twitter Blue subscription, you have 30 days to disable SMS-based 2FA. Twitter Blue costs $8 per month or $84 per year. If you purchase it from the app on iOS or Android, you will have to pay $11 per month. It costs Rs. 650 per month in India.

People who do not want to pay for Twitter Blue but want to use 2FA can enable the 2FA using an authenticator app. I have already made a list of the best authenticator apps. I personally use Google Authenticator.

As per Twitter’s transparency report from 2021, 74.4 percent of Twitter users who have 2FA enabled use the SMS method 2FA. Only 2.6 percent of Twitter users enabled two-factor authentication. So, The new change will affect only a small number of Twitter users.
