Social messaging platform Snap has unveiled its own experimental chatbot powered by ChatGPT. This AI chatbot is called My AI and has been customized for Snapchat. My AI will be initially available to Snapchat+ subscribers as an experiment starting this week.

The AI chatbot will be pinned to the top of the Chat tab and can help users with different things. This AI chatbot can answer trivia questions or write a haiku. The company has trained it to adhere to Snapchat’s safety guidelines. It will not respond to violence, sexually explicit content, or opinions about dicey topics.

“My AI can recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal,” the company wrote in a blog post.

On Snapchat, My AI’s profile page looks like the profile of any other Snapchat user. It has its own Bitmoji and feels like having a new friend on Snapchat. With this new feature for Snapchat+ subscribers, the company aims to boost paid subscriber numbers. So, it will be interesting to see if users actually like to have this AI friend on the platform.

All the conversations with My AI will also be reviewed to improve the product’s experience. The company suggests that users shouldn’t share any secrets with My AI. Although the chatbot has been designed to avoid incorrect, harmful, or misleading information, it could make mistakes. So, users shouldn’t rely on the chatbot for advice.
